TR: BOLTON VALLEY '09/10 - OPENING DAY
TICKET TO RIDE, BOLTON VALLEY, VERMONT
I roll up to Bolton Valley for Opening Day 2010, right on the heels of the first snowstorm in just a little bit, so there's some fresh powder to play with in the trees, and to skiers' left on trails, where the wind has it stacked.
A great day with friends on home turf for the first time since April 2006. I worried that time away from Vermont would have shrunk me to a whinging, shivering puss. But it was not bad at all, and a comp ticket helped.
As you would expect, everything skied Opening Day were on closed trails. Music: Sometimes Enough by the Black Seeds.

At home in San Carlos I receive urgent news from Connecticut that my Father collapsed on his way to Thanksgiving dinner, and is gravely ill.
I pack quickly and prepare the house for vacancy, and, not knowing a date for return, lay some contingency plans. At dawn I wake, finish my chores, roll my luggage out to the Pan-American Highway, and step to the east-bound bus stand, quickly catching a bus to Panama City.
Settling into a hotel I snag some WiFi, buy airline tickets, and wait a day for the north-bound flight.
